Joining Hands with UNICEF: Chery Focuses on Global Children’s Education
- Chery signed a contract with UNICEF to help fund quality education for the most vulnerable and marginalized children
- Chery will also support UNICEF education programmes in China, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey;
BEIJING / GENEVA, 17 October 2023– Chery Automobile and UNICEF announced a new two-year, $6 million partnership, in support of education programmes around the world.

According to UNICEF’s State of Global Learning Poverty 2022, an estimated 70 per cent of the world’s 10-year-olds were unable to read and understand a simple sentence. This figure is up from 57 per cent before the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“We very much appreciate Chery’s support for UNICEF education programmes,” UNICEF Representative to China Amakobe Sande said. “This will help us provide quality education for some of the most vulnerable and marginalized children in China and around the world. It will also support countries to strengthen their education systems, to better serve children and communities.”

The partnership was officially launched with a signing ceremony at the first Chery International User Summit in Wuhu, China. The attendees of this summit include Ningbo, Secretary of the Wuhu Municipal Committee, Mr. Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holdings Group, and UNICEF’s Amakobe Sande, Representative to China, Sanaullah Panezai, Chief of Education, and Manuel Pinzon, Chief of Partnerships and Innovation.
The new partnership will help UNICEF tackle the learning crisis by supporting its global education programmes aimed at providing quality education to the most disadvantaged and marginalised children.
Chery will also support education programmes in China, Mexico, South Africa and Türkiye. This will include providing inclusive, healthy, and safe learning environments for children and adolescents, ensuring equal opportunities to learn and enhance their employability. Investing in the education of the poorest children is the most cost-effective way to ensure a bright future for children, communities and countries.
At the signing conference, Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Group, said: “Over its 26-year development, Chery has placed a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility. Chery has held a strong belief in taking responsibility and is actively engaged in global philanthropic activities, including disaster relief, environmental protection, targeted poverty alleviation, and education donation.

In 2022, UNICEF and partners enabled 37.8 million out-of-school children to receive a quality education, including 2.5 million children with disabilities, 3.1 million displaced children, and 18.6 million children affected by emergencies.
With Chery’s valuable contribution, UNICEF can continue to advance quality and inclusive education for millions of children around the world through its global education programmes and its country-led ones in China, Mexico, South Africa and Türkiye.
