This new record for a Chinese vehicle manufacturer was confirmed after the final production and sales figures were published for April 2022. It represents a year-on-year increase of 12.6% in vehicle exports and reaffirms Chery’s position as China’s leading exporter of vehicles.

According to Chery’s official production, sales and export report, the company sold 55 588 vehicles on local soil and a total of 284 865 vehicles in the four months to April. This is almost 1% better than in the same period last year.

Chery’s sales success is spearheaded by the Tiggo range and particularly by the Tiggo 8 Pro, which has proven popular across the globe for its combination of innovative technology, modern design and proven durability.

The 500 000th current-generation Chery Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 8 Pro were produced on 26 April. It coincided with the group’s launch of the newest version of the model, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+. This model is fitted with Chery’s proprietary DHT Super Hybrid system, which offers best-in-class power and low fuel consumption.

In Chile, ANAC (Asociación Nacional Automotriz de Chile A.G.), the official industry body of the automotive industry, confirmed that Chery grew by 47% in April compared to the same month last year.

Chery has a market share of 17.4% in this market, and the Tiggo 2 Pro has been the top-selling SUV in this market for the past 15 consecutive months.

In Brazil, where Chery is the ninth biggest vehicle brand, the Brazil Fenabrave (National Federation of Distribution of Motor Vehicles) reported that Chery reached total sales of 12 863 in the four months to April.

The Arrizo 6 Pro has proven particularly popular in Brazil. It has a market share of 4.54% and is the fourth most popular vehicle in the sedan segment.

On the African continent, Chery has made waves. In Egypt, Chery’s sales jumped by 121% in April compared to the same month last year and by 27% over March 2022.

“While no manufacturer in the automotive industry has escaped unscathed from the current chip shortage and other COVID-19-related disruptions, Chery has been very proactive in keeping its customers informed and building as many vehicles as possible.

“We trust that when production and supply normalise in the second half of this year, we will see a significant jump in sales and new model introductions, both abroad and in South Africa,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
